Twenty-one young men and women have successfully graduated with new construction skills through Australia’s inaugural Trade Qualification Pilot program. The ceremony, held at Metoreia Health Centre in Hanuabada, National Capital District (NCD), marked the milestone achievement for the first group of trainees from this initiative. Australian High Commissioner John Feakes, NCD Governor Powes Parkop MP, and Motu Koita Assembly Chair and NCD Deputy Governor Dadi Toka were present to commend the graduates for earning their trade qualifications. More than half of the graduates are women, gaining valuable hands-on experience through the construction of the Metoreia Health Centre. The newly built health centre symbolizes the power of community involvement, serving as a critical resource for approximately 40,000 people. It aims to enhance healthcare access and improve health outcomes, particularly for women and children, by providing much-needed services in the area.
High Commissioner Feakes highlighted the significance of the program, noting the graduates' hard work and dedication. “This health centre is a proud testament to what can be achieved through practical training and community effort,” he stated. Governor Parkop and Deputy Governor Toka also praised the initiative, emphasizing its role in developing local talent and fostering community development. They pointed out the importance of real-world experience in equipping young people with the skills needed to make substantial contributions to their communities. The Metoreia Health Centre project is supported by a collaboration between Australia, the Motu Koita Assembly, United Church, NCD Provincial Health Authority, National Department of Health, and NCD Commission. These partners are dedicated to ensuring the centre has the necessary resources to continue serving the community effectively in the coming years. Also read Comments are closed.
