TEACHERS should be regularly acknowledged for the crucial role they play in communities, a senior teacher said while observing Teachers’ Day at the Kokopo Primary School, in East New Britain, last Friday.
Without competent and motivated teachers, society would be left in the wilderness, be basically ignorant and prejudiced, Wesley Vatnabar said. He said it was time society appreciated the effort teachers put into educating children as part of nation-building. Watnabar said many people in the world needed to be liberated from the cushions of ignorance and prejudice. “A teacher is a warrior against ignorance and wilderness and are the ones to free people from ignorance and prejudice,” he said. Vatnabar said there was now a need for a call to raise the status of the profession. He urged teachers in his province to strive for new ideas and new developments in the field following a call for quality, more disciplined and dedicated teachers. “It is a call to bureaucrats and the government for better working conditions for teachers,” Vatnabar said.
