![]() EDUCATION does not stop or end when you have graduated from a high school or college, it ends when you are in a coffin, says 54-year-old Ivaroa John, from Gulf. John, a father of six, believes better and honest is through education as it is the only way to success. He first attended Port Moresby Technical College, where he graduated with a certificate in electro technology. “With the certificate, I found a job and looked after my family. “The package was not enough, but I tried by best to feed my family and provide for their necessity.” Sadly, John lost his certificate in a house fire during an ethnic clash in Back Road of Lae, Morobe, in 2007, but he did not lose hope and trust. He even secured a job, but that did not satisfy him as the package (income) he got from the job was not enough to feed his family. “So I decided to go back to further my studies to achieve certificates in different field of interest to secure a better job.
“But, I underestimated myself that I would not make it through due to my age.” One day John went to church where the Director of the National Training Institute, Kila Gabi, introduced the institute and the courses it offers to the church members. John took the offer the director had made at the church where he studied Diesel Heavy Equipment Fitting, level 1, for six weeks and graduated last Friday with a certificate. He already has his mind set on furthering his studies into a social course to at least help him to find a better job. The 54-year-old said with his certificate, he would now look for a better job as city life is not always as pleasing as we dreamt and want of.
