The Government is committed to education as it is an agent of change and prosperity, says Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill. He said this during the opening of a K1 million information technology building complex at the Ialibu Secondary School last Friday.
Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill, who was accompanied by Southern Highlands Governor William Powi and member for Nipa-Kutubu Jeffery Komal, said that education would continue to be his government’s priority because he saw education as a development tool. He said since the Government’s free tuition fee education and the change in curriculum, more than a million more students were going to school. Almost two million students were in school out of the total 7.8 million population of PNG, he added. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said the Government also plans to rollout Information Technology (IT) programs for students nationwide. He said in 2013, the Government entered into a partnership with the Chinese government to rollout IT programs for schools and the Ialibu Secondary School, his old high school, was one recipient of the partnership program. He said the program would be extended but urged the students to use the computers wisely and abstain from vandalism and other bad practices. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill called on the students to use the opportunity to concentrate in their studies and prosper in life
