A POLICEMAN attached to the Gerehu Police Station has been charged with sexual penetration of a 13-year-old school girl on New Year’s Day.
The incident occurred at around 9pm at the Tokam police barracks, Waigani, where the probationary constable lived.
“Commander himself (ACP Sylvester Kalaut) went to the barracks and arrested the officer,” NCD Met Supt Benjamin Turi confirmed.
According to police, the victim, a Grade 5 student at Boreboa Primary School, had followed the man to a roadside market outside the barracks gate on New Year’s night after the man went to the girl’s house.
The suspect then led the victim towards the new building where single staff lived. The suspect is alleged to have pushed the girl through the door into the building.
Despite attempts by the girl to force her way out of the door, the man grabbed her by the arm and continued to push her towards his room.
The suspect locked the victim in his room and went to the bathroom.
The victim walked towards the door to escape but the accused noticed her and returned to the bedroom where he is alleged to have pushed the victim onto the bed, sexually penetrating her moments later.
According to the victim, she pleaded for him to stop when she was in pain but the suspect refused.
Scared and in pain, the victim forcefully pushed the suspect off, put on her clothes and was making her way to the door when the suspect’s wife knocked.
The suspect told the victim to hide under his bed as he got dressed, unlocked the door and jumped out of the window.
His wife entered the room, found the victim under the bed and started beating her.
The victim’s mother, who was informed of the incident that night, located her and lodged a formal complaint with police. The National
