STAFF and students of the PNG University of Technology conducted their first meeting of the Google Development Group (GDG) at the Taraka Campus in Lae yesterday.
The group is one of Google’s initiatives established to bring together people who had interest in technology or wanted to create technology. It is open to everyone to join. Unitech staff and students started PNG’s first GDG meeting and had called their group the GDG Lae.PG group. “GDG focuses on developers of ideas that can help Google filter explicit and obscene contents and also create an online environment that is resourceful to its millions of users globally,” Team leader of the GDG Lae.PG group Austin Polin said. Polin said the group was in its initial stages and once it was recognised by the Unitech administration they would connect with the rest of the country. Polin said the group could be a point of contact for PNG contributors of vital information towards mapping the country online for the rest of the world to have access to. Participants of the meeting expressed appreciation of the group’s establishment and were looking forward to contributing towards its development in the country. The group is expected to host another formal meeting at the end of this month as it was a requirement to host two meetings monthly. Comments are closed.
