MINISTER for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Malakai Tabar has called on business organizations and companies to offer sponsorships for students in higher institutions in the country.
Tabar said companies and businesses should appreciate that they are reaping the benefits of employing highly qualified professionals educated by the Government. “At the end of the day, this government has helped in their process of civil engineering or accounting, but they are taken up by big companies of this country,” Tabar said. He said the Government provided education and training and produced highly qualified people that will continue to benefit these companies and businesses. “And as a country, they should also help the Government, parents and students as part of their business obligation, provide some sponsorships for top performing students from second, third and final years,” Tabar said. He said they can do their own selection and offer sponsorships. “Arrangements can be made with the students where they could be employed in those respective organizations for some years or so after completing their studies and move on in life. As a country, we all have to take responsibility of what the Government is doing, because after all, it’s going to benefit the country and we are part of this country who are benefitting. “I commend some of the companies that sponsor students, but would like to see an increase in scholarship offered to students at our higher education institutions in the country.”
