World Vision and Child Fund workshops helps PNG teacher trainers learn more about literacy1/31/2018 WORLD Vision and Child Fund recently ran a one-week training of trainers (ToT) workshop on early literacy teaching techniques, mentoring and coaching skills for teacher trainers and provincial and district education officers from Central, Madang and Morobe. Forty people attended the workshop which was conducted two weeks ago at the World Vision country programme office in Madang. The workshop was to equip teachers with knowledge and skills on age-appropriate elementary literacyand numeracy instruction and classroom management training. The participants will train teachers in their respective districts and provinces. The workshop was the first of many more courses and activities that would be implemented by the “Together for Education” project. The project will enhance access to quality elementary education in Central, Madang, and Morobe, with a special focus on literacy and numeracy skills through a series of mutually-reinforcing outcomes focused on the engagement of parents, caregivers, and communities, teacher education and support, child-friendly learning environments and learning materials and knowledge-sharing. Madang’s district education adviser, John Kim, said he was fortunate to attend the workshop. “This ToT workshop is very meaningful as it enriches my knowledge and equips me to provide better support to elementary teachers and schools in the Madang district,” he said. “The project really bridges the gap and complements what the Government is doing.” Kim said the project was timely as it was in line with the Government’s Medium-Term Development Strategy and Madang’s Kalibobo Vision 2020 goals.
