The Western Highlands Provincial Government has announced its Technical Educational Vocational Training (TEVT) Schools Development Programs for 2024 to 2027. The plan aims to establish 25 new TEVT schools across all districts of Western Highlands within three years. Provincial Member Wai Rapa highlighted that this initiative is designed to provide quality skills training and educational opportunities to youth who have dropped out of school, empowering them for a brighter future. During the launch, Mr. Rapa presented a cheque totaling K900,000 to nine existing TVET schools, including those in Jiwaka Province. The nine TVET schools, which include Rabiamul, Tega AOG Baisu, St. Paul’s, Tambul, Ogelbeng, and Kimil in Jiwaka, have been neglected for almost 30 years. “We, the Western Highlanders, want to become a modern province by improving these TVET schools. Many students have failed from schools, and I saw that there is no other way to address this. TVET is the only way forward for them,” Mr. Rapa stated.
Mr. Rapa further expressed that these institutions would play a crucial role in equipping students with valuable skills and knowledge, setting them on a path towards success and self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra commended and congratulated the provincial government for their hard work. “Congratulations, we are honored to be here to witness this. As our minister is committed, we will give our utmost best,” Dr. Kombra said. The Education Minister has pledged their government’s support to improve this plan moving forward.
