The Provincial Education Board in West New Britain has a plan to elevate elementary training.
Education Advisor Paul Laore said the first lot of 33 elementary teachers will be sent to the University of Goroka for two years for a diploma in Early Childhood Learning. He said the board has selected three teachers each from all the Local Level Governments. Mr Laore said this will be followed by another 118 elementary teachers in the next intake. He said for those who want to start new elementary schools the entry requirement is grade twelve qualifications, sober habits and is involved with youth, church or community work. Mr Laore said the elementary school teacher must have a good standing in the community and be recommended by the community to the education board for further training. Meanwhile the advisor said the Provincial Education Board is giving priority to recruiting indigenous teachers to avoid problems with leave fares as experienced in the past. Mr Laore said the board will look at selecting locals and other Papua New Guineans who have settled in the province and are second and third generation, who will also be classified as locals. He said they will first sort out the teachers who have been displaced before they look at recruiting new ones. In a related issue Mr Laore said the maximum project fee for this year is k200. He said the board of management should be flexible to allow parents to pay the project fees at a later date if they are not able to pay during enrollment. Mr Laore is also urging the management and school principals not to make their own appointments but to make a recommendation to the teacher appointment committee who will make the appointment which will be the be endorsed by the board. He warned that teachers appointed outside of the appointment process will not be recognised and therefore will not be on the payroll. Post Courier Comments are closed.
