POLICE in Morobe had to rescue a school principal after he was allegedly attacked by a group of his own students.
Morobe rural police commander Insp David Warap said the headmaster of Wasu Secondary School, in the Wasu LLG, in Tewai-Siassi, was attacked by students on Monday night and again yesterday morning. Warap said students armed with weapons destroyed the windscreen on the principal’s vehicle and damaged his home around 10pm on Monday night and continued to the morning. “The principal and his family were rescued by police yesterday morning after police received reports of the attack,” Warap said. “He did not sustain any injuries. His family is also okay,” he said. “However, his vehicle and home were ransacked and destroyed by the male students,” Warap said. Warap said police were yet to find out the motive for the attack on the principal and his family. Police said the principal was from Enga. “He was taken on a dinghy to Lae for his own safety,” Warap said. “It’s a big number of students so we will send reinforcements into Wasu to find out what happened,” he said. Warap appealed to the students to refrain from destroying any more school properties and let police and leaders deal with their concerns. Warap said school properties cost the Government a lot of money to build or purchase. The National

It is yet again another sad day for the people of Wasu, its surrounding community and stakeholders for the attack on the school principal and his family by the students. We know in any school system there are protocols to address any related school issues before it is escalates to this magnitude. Why would students resort to damaging school properties and harmed their own principal? Where are the Board of Governors, P&C members, Ward members, LLG and the District? How are you going to solve this? Let the police deal directly with the problem and let the students go back to class
