LAE Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr has been awarded the 2018 Divine Word University Alumnus of the Year. He was recognised for his “extraordinary service in promoting and enforcing law and order in the police force”. University president Dr Cecilia Nembou said the distinguished alumnae award was established to recognise the institute’s alumni who had attained extraordinary distinction in their chosen fields, in service to society or by support to the university and serve as an example to all members of the DWU community.
Nembou later unveiled a plaque bearing Wagambie’s name at Alumnae Park. The culture of recognising alumni began three years ago with John Taka, who graduated in 2011 with Bachelor in Business (Accounting) for his selfless work in starting up a rural community self-help group called ‘Seed of Hope’ in the Mulbeyer district in Western Highlands. Wagambie thanked the university for recognising his services and God, his family for their support and the DWU for instilling the leadership and management skills which he applied in his work as a senior member of the PNG Royal Constabulary.
