Leo Warupi Miria, 23, returned to his home village in Yule Island, Central Province, in 2015 after completing four years at Unitech for a Bachelors Degree in Commerce majoring in applied economic. He was allegedly killed on New Year’s Eve 2016 by more than 10 known suspects from the same village who are still on the run. According to the parents and an elder uncle, who attended his graduation last Friday in Lae to receive his degree post-humously. The young man had tried to stop an argument between his brothers and another faction when he was attacked from the back and struck with a wood at the back of the head. The uncle said attempts to save his life by rushing him to Port Moresby General Hospital were in vain. The uncle said since then the known suspects were taken into custody but later released and police investigations are continuing. He added that the reasons for the suspects being released are unknown to the victim’s family and relatives. Post Courier
