UNIVERSITY of Goroka has limited spaces this year.
This is because of under subscription of study places and high demand from students many of whom maybe eligible to meet basic requirements, but only the best with high GPA are accepted and given places for studies.
According to the Vice Chancellor Prof MusaweSinebare the University for the first timehas also opted to select students into the science subjects based on achieving GPA of 2.7 upwards.
The normal GPA of 2.5 if considered would have resulted in over subscription of places for which the university is under resourced and incapacitated to provide. This in essence means the quality of applicants have increased in 2017 especially where brighter students academically chose UOG as a
university of choice.
In the non-school leaver category of students, nearly 6,000 applications were received in 2016 for studies in 2017 for less than 2,000 available places.
This means that the demand for higher education is growing and this year alone has increased beyond expectations.
Residential accommodation for students is limited to begin with despite the new student accommodation building which is expensive for many fee paying students. Even the demand for non-residential students is still high but the equal and affordable private accommodation is also prohibitive. The Post Courier/PNG Education News
