PEOPLE who drop out from primary, high or secondary schools should choose a Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) institution to get a second chance.
Obe Kints, the superintendent for high and secondary schools and TVET in Jiwaka, said that during the combined expo of the four TVET institutions in the province at Banz, on Sept 16. “Do not lock your mind with negativity when you find that you cannot continue to Grade 9, 11 or university,” Kints said. “Your colleagues who make it are aiming for a career as an accountant, doctor, pilot, engineer, economist or lawyer. But I tell you, the country has enough of these people. “This country needs technical people and the demand for such is very high. If you don’t know, I must tell you.” TVET institutions from Fatima, Kuli, Minj and Maria Kwin (Banz) showcased their various trade courses and product samples during the independence anniversary.

This is true. I was a Lecturer with TVET - Lae Technical College now National Polytechnic Institute of PNG from 2001 - 2009 under the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. The school Director or from TVET head office, to really look into their programme. The institution became very selective on the entry requirements. I believed that the Diploma programme are meant to support the industrial or mining needs with Technician or Technical Manpower. But because of the selection criteria or entry requirements of the colleges, it is becoming like selection for uni.
