The teaching standard in Papua New Guinea has dropped tremendously over the years and it reflects on the students.
That’s a concern raised by Wardstrip Primary School Headmistress Emily Ricky. She said back in the 90s, teachers developed learning materials for their students and the classrooms were filled with educational items and posters relating back to the topics they were studying. Mrs Ricky added, “Today’s teachers are depending on lap tops, internet and the latest gadgets which is why some good teaching material books have collected dust over the years.” Mrs Ricky who herself has taught for 40 years will retire this year but her call to the government to is revive the old way of teaching in order to develop quality teachers. “Quality learning for the future generation is a must.”.
