TEACHERS in Chimbu have been challenged to upgrade their qualification from certificates to diploma in primary education. Provincial educatiProvincial education adviser Essy Walkaima said with demand for quality education having increased, teachers must improve in their lesson presentation to be on par with what was expected. He told 25 primary and five elementary teachers who completed their first and second phase of their diploma programme conducted by PNG Education Institute at Don Bosco Institute of Technology recently to learn more and upgrade their knowledge. Walkaima told the teachers that in order to provide quality education, training was the way to go. He said his office was seeking K500,000 to send elementary teachers to go for two-three years training before returning to teach. He said teachers must equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and changes taking place before teaching. Walkaima told the teachers that the young generation looked upon them to prosper in life and urged them to be committed in their teaching. He said that the name of the curriculum changed from Outcomes-Based Education to Standards-Based Education, but everything was still the same. He told teachers to teach whatever method which was more convenient.
