Port Moresby police are investigating the death of a community school teacher who was found dead at his home at Morata Two in the nation’s capital last Friday morning.
National Capital District’s Metropolitan Superintendant Andy Bawa said the teacher is believed to be from Enga Province. Mr Bawa said the teacher reportedly had an argument with his wife the night before. "The police are carrying out investigations at the moment to establish the cause of the death," he said. In another incident, police are investigating a probationary policeman who reportedly discharged a firearm unlawfully at a public place at Hohola Five in Moresby Northwest. The policeman from the Highlands origin was reportedly drunk and went on a rampage and terrorised the public before firing several shots from a firearm he held at the time. Mr Bawa said the members of the public who were at the scene at the time reported the matter to police on the indecent behaviour of the policeman. Mr Bawa reiterated that police were not above the law and such conduct would not be tolerated in the force. He said he had issued instruction for the arrest of the particular probationary officer and investigation would commence to ascertain whether the firearm used was a police issued firearm.
