SCHOOLS and teachers are there because of the students and this makes the students the important resources, says Paul Bange, the principal of Minj Secondary school in Jiwaka Province. Mr Bange said this during the commissioning of a double classroom, a computer laboratory and the extension of the school’s staff room in Minj secondary on Tuesday. “There are schools, teachers and a board of management in every learning institution in the country because there are students learning in these schools,” Mr Bange said. “That is why the students are the most important resources in a school and their learning and education is the paramount aim of every school.” The principal, who has a good reputation in the Western Highlands and Jiwaka Provinces as a principal who has established many new high school and secondary schools, said it is the aim of all the teachers and management to provide all the necessary learning infrastructure for students. “The new double classroom will cater for a science laboratory and library while the other two spaces will be used as classrooms,” Mr Bange stressed. He said Minj secondary was upgraded from high school level to secondary status three years ago and is a fairly new school but all the necessary infrastructure are in place. The principal urged the teachers and management to work together and make the learning environment conducive for the students to stay and learn. “These new buildings which we commission now have been achieved through patience, sweat and hard work,” said Mr Bange. “And I urge everyone of us to look after it so that it can sustain the education of our children.” Minj Secondary school is one of only three secondary schools in the new Jiwaka Province along with Fatima and Anglimp secondary schools. It has a total student population of 1800 of which only 500 are boarding students while the majority are day students due to limited dormitories. The school is looking to build new dormitories this year. Post Courier
