STUDENT leaders of Gordon Secondary and Dela Salle Secondary schools have reconciled over fights between students of the two schools over the past weeks.
In peace reconciliation exchange visits yesterday, student leaders and teachers from Gordon Secondary visited Dela Salle Secondary to apologise and water a “peace tree” that was planted by Gordon Secondary students in 2008 to end fights between the two schools. Dela Salle student leaders and teachers did the same to further strengthen the De La and Kokofa Peace Accord. The De La and Kokofa Peace Accord was signed in 2008 by both schools to recognise their rights to respect each other in the process of learning and accepted not to cause intimidation and violence to disturb peace in education. Gordon Secondary School principal George Kenega, talking to students of both schools at Dela Salle, said both schools would be taking tough stands on students who are involved in such activities. “When there is order in the schools, students will perform well academically,” Kenega said. Gordon Secondary School head boy John Wak Norun apologised to the students of Dela Salle on behalf of his follow students and promised to maintain the peace accord. Dela Salle Secondary School principal James Ume said the watering of the “peace tree” by Gordon Secondary student leaders was very significant move as it would solidify the peace agreement between the two schools. “We are looking at making the watering of the “peace trees” in both schools an annual event.”
