PNG Students Advised STAT-P Fee Is Not for All, Says Education Secretary

​Papua New Guinea Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra has reassured students and parents that the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT-P) fee does not apply to all Grade 12 students, but only those applying for selected university programs.

Dr. Kombra said there has been confusion among students and schools about the fee, leading some to believe it was connected to national examinations. “This fee does not apply to the national examinations conducted for Grades 8, 10, and 12,” he stated.

According to Dr. Kombra, the fee is only for the cost of administering the STAT-P test and is not a general application or registration fee charged by DHERST or the Department of Education. “Only institutions that require the STAT-P as part of their entry process will ask students to pay this fee,” he said.

He stressed that most universities and colleges in PNG do not require the STAT-P test, so most Grade 12 applicants will not be affected. “The majority of students applying this year will not need to pay anything extra,” he added.

Dr. Kombra encouraged applicants to use the official Application System, which clearly shows which programs require the STAT-P. If a program does not list the STAT-P requirement, there is no need for payment.
