Almost 70,000 grade 10 students across the country sat for the National Written Expression Examination this morning. While grade 10 students in other provinces prepared well yesterday and made their way to school without any issues today, it was not the same for students in NCD as they struggled this morning to get to school with literally no PMV buses on the road this morning. It is understood that PMV buses stopped operating as of 1pm yesterday due to the unrest that took place yesterday and that continued on this morning which has very much affected some of the grade 10 students who were unable to make it to their school to sit for their exam. Gerehu Secondary School is one the affected schools in the city as it showed this morning when 36 grade 10 students did not turn up to sit for their for exam as they were unable to travel to school. Deputy Principal for Curriculum Mr. Francis Saju said the 36 students will not be given a 2nd chance to sit for the same exam, but they can write to the Measurement Service Branch (MSB) to get an estimated mark. “This is a National Exam and 2nd chances cannot be given except for tests or assignments but the only option now for those that missed the exam is to fill out an absenteeism form and submitted to MSB with the reason for being absent and MSB is able to award an estimate mark” said Mr Saju. The Written Expression Exam makes up 30% of a student’s academic results which is a requirement in their final result. PNGFM
