A CHEQUE for K250,000 was given to St Charles Lwanga High School to upgrade its status from high to secondary school in Port Moresby yesterday.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop handed the cheque to school principal Br Joseph Thomas on behalf of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill. The Government is trying to address issues of infrastructure in education. Parkop said the Government was serious and keen on educating the nation and the tuition fee free education policy was one of the main ways of assuring this. He stressed that it aimed to have “no drop-outs and no push-outs”. However, the TFF policy did not cover areas of infrastructure so the money was a contribution for that, Parkop said. The school aims to build 10 classrooms at a cost of K1.8 million which will enable it to become a secondary school. In addition, the Deputy Governor of Northern Evartius Bori flew into Port Moresby to present a cheque for K2000 to assist the school.
