Sogeri National High School outside the nation's capital, is holding double
celebrations, starting tomorrow.
The events begin with new school infrastructure commissioning by Prime
Minister, Peter O'Neill, while East Sepik Governor and a pioneer student, Grand
Chief Sir Michael Somare, heads the reunion celebrations on Friday.
School Principal, Benny Rayapan, says the reunion is to allow new and old
students mingle and learn from each other, as the institution develops into a
School of Excellence, under the Government's Vision 2050, of building an
educated population.
Mr. Rayappan said with the governments funding of more than 10 million Kina
to the school, they have managed to build a new administration block, school
library, science blocks, two double storey dormitories for male and female
students, a museum, an auditorium and some teachers houses.
He says the school has decided to build new infrastructures and buildings,
instead of renovating the old ones because of the excessive costs they are faced
with yearly, due to wear and tear and maintenance.
Mr. Rayappan said the school is now ready to invite Prime Minister, Peter
O'Neill, to officially open some of the completed buildings this Thursday, while
Friday has been set aside as a re-union day for former students to visit the
school, and speak to the students and motivate them in their learning.
