YOUNG Rocky Maimar, a recipient of the technical vocational education training skills scholarship programme says the Government has given him an opportunity to prove himself worthy of something.
He said given the privileges of being selected in the programme, he would take his studies in Australia seriously to accomplish his dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer. “This privilege I have now is a real help for me to contribute towards the country,” Maimar said. “It will help me and others be specialised in one area of study.” He said through the Government’s recognition to get students to study on scholarships it could help in developing the nation as a whole. “Through this scholarship, we could have a decent job and afford a decent life and the advantage was that we were getting skills from another country and from qualified people,” he said. “Being exposed to the outside world could increase our knowledge and lifestyle to become successful.” Maimar completed Grade 12 at Della Salle Secondary School in Port Moresby in 2014, studying pure science but did not receive any offer to continue his studies. His dream was to become an engineer and one day earn himself the life he wanted. This was becoming a reality, when he applied for the skills scholarships programme in 2015, and got selected this year to study abroad. “I have a greater aim to become an engineer and I would do whatever it takes to get there with this opportunity given to me,” he said. “I would not waste an opportunity that would change my life but grab them with appreciation for more opportunities that may come my way.” Maimar is now abroad at the North Queensland College in Cairns studying certificate two mechanical engineering for a period of six months.
