ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas has blasted government officers responsible for the establishment of a new polytech college in his province for failing to fast-track the process. Sir Peter said because of their slackness, the land for polytech was sitting idle and covered in tall grass near Wabag town. Sir Peter said Enga had submitted all the necessary designs and cleared the land for the polytech, yet there was nothing done to progress and complete the project. He said that while trying to get updates from the concerned officials, they seemed to be all over the place.
“We shouldn’t be going around, we have to be steady and get the project off the ground,” Sir Peter said. He said Enga was prepared and had submitted all the requirements but the officers were not responding. Sir Peter said several approaches had been made at those offices but people were ignorant. “When I go in to find out, people take in another application from other centres and Enga is still waiting when the polytech will be erected,” he said. “This is not good and those responsible should be doing their work properly and making sure priority is given.” Sir Peter said the polytech would serve the people from Enga, Hela, Southern Highlands and Western Highlands, including other parts of the country. “When you travel to Mt Hagen city, you will see youths doing nothing and wandering the streets. “This Polytech will be accommodating these group of people and give them a chance in life. “I do not know why there is such a big delay in this project.” The National
