A proposal to transform Marianville Secondary School into a university for girls has been put forward by Papua New Guinea Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae. Speaking at the school’s 60th anniversary celebrations in Bomana, Sir Bob used the occasion to outline his ambition for the institution’s future growth beyond secondary education. He described Marianville as a centre of excellence that has, over the years, shaped the lives of many young women through quality education and strong values. Reflecting on its history, he noted the school’s transformation from a small establishment into one of the most respected girls’ schools in the country. Sir Bob also paid tribute to past students, saying their achievements across various professions demonstrate the school’s important role in nation-building.
He reminded students of the importance of education in addressing ongoing national issues, encouraging them to remain focused and disciplined in their academic pursuits. The Governor-General expressed hope that the dream of establishing a girls’ university at Marianville would be realised in the future, stating that such a move would significantly strengthen women’s education in Papua New Guinea.
