A total of 960 primary school teachers in East Sepik have been put off pay for four fortnights, says a primary school head teacher. Clement Walama, of Mangnaol Primary school, in the heart of Wewak town, told of the plight of East Sepik teachers in an interview with The National yesterday, He said the provincial education division has sent salary staff to Port Moresby to resolve the issue. “They went to Port Moresby and came back to the province, but decisions made were not made known to the teachers,” Walama said.
“Our teachers are still teaching and not informed of when their salaries will come.” Teaching Service Commission chairman Baran Sori said the teachers’ salary issue had already been addressed by the Department of Education. He said teachers would soon receive their salaries because the Government had no reason to hold back salaries of hardworking teachers. The National
