School fighting and the involvement of cult activities in the city are the two main factors that are holding back the students from concentrating on their studies.
This year the IMP Events, a non-government organisation as part of its community program is organizing a seminar for students in the city to attend this Saturday at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology and a walk against school fighting and Cult groupings on Sunday. The walk will start from the Unitech school gate to Eriku as early as 5am in the morning. According IMP coordinator Mr Maison Mai they have come with the initiative to refocus students’ concentration away from fighting and involving themselves in cult groupings that are not of value to their education. Instead the program is to help students especially to concentrate and to help them recognized their value as students. The program has gained enormous support from the business community, community leaders which have prompted one of the long time producers of biscuit in the country, Lae Snax Biscuit to fully support the course, by donating T-shirts towards the walk against school fight this coming Sunday.
