A SCHOOL in Madang which was forced to close before the end of Term One has resumed classes after receiving its share of State subsidy.
Bunapas Primary School in Middle Ramu had to send its 300 students home before the term one break because it did not have enough funds. It received its first part payment of K5676 last week. A source at the education office said the school had changed its bank account without properly notifying education officials. An amount of K16,966 was paid to the old bank account. He said BSP would produce all the activated school accounts and funds would be redeposited into the right accounts of schools. Bau Vocational which threatened to close down operation this term received the outstanding payment of more than K120,000 last week. He said the school had increased its enrolment figures but submitted the figures late to the education officials. St Benedict’s Danip Agriculture vocational school had received its allocation. “All payments for schools with ANZ and Westpac accounts received their payments last week,” he said. The primary schools yet to receive their subsidies are Gande, Sinua, Talidig, Wawapi and Sogeram.
