NCD Governor Powes Parkop
SCHOOLS in the National Capital District have been neglected because of the policy-oriented course of the Education Department, Governor Powes Parkop said. Parkop said this during the opening of a double classroom at the Kilakila Primary School in Port Moresby. “This is because the National Department of Education, like any other government department, is not a service or operational institution anymore,” he said Parkop said he would be tabling a submission in the National Executive Council to decentralise all elementary, primary and secondary schools in the National Capital District down to the provincial administration level. This was part of NCD’s initiative to take ownership of the schools and ensure they were upgraded, he said. Parkop said it was a simple way because there would be accountability and ownership of running the school with good feedback. He said schools were a valued treasure and should be looked after properly. Parkop felt schools with clean environment and good classrooms boosted learning. Comments are closed.
