The chairman of the Central education board will lift the suspension of classes at Sabuai Primary School if the community guarantees the safety of teachers, an official says
Inspector Aeva Omuru said this in response to a parent who claimed the headmaster had misled the board, resulting in the suspension of classes. Omuru said the chairman suspended classes last month because of the threat of violence. He said a man accused of trying to rape a teacher had been bashed to death by members of the community and the man’s relatives had responded by threatening teachers. “The division is concern about the safety of the teachers,” Omuru said. “It is the community’s responsibility to write to the provincial education board chairman and guarantee the teachers’ safety so that the chairman can lift the suspension. That didn’t happen although it was made clear to them.” On April 16, the provincial education board chairman and adviser, wrote to the Sabuai board of management and suspended classes for an indefinite period until teachers’ safety can be guaranteed. “There have been threats to the lives of our teachers in the school, as reported by the school administration,” the letter said. “This is because the teachers have been blamed for the death of Marava Haro. “The community must convene to address this issue so things are settled for school to start classes.” The National
