Samarai-Murua District Invests in Education: Students Enroll at Adamson University in Philippines

​Recipients of the scholarship program from the Samarai-Murua District in Milne Bay Province have successfully settled into Adamson University in Manila, Philippines. All eight students have enrolled in their respective courses to pursue their aspirations and ambitions for the future.

The scholarship initiative was established through a historic partnership between the PNG Affiliation International Agency Country Program (PNGAIACP) and Adamson University. PNGAIACP Country Coordinator Reno Kola, who accompanied the students to Manila, reported that the university management accepted the students based on their individual career choices during a three-hour meeting.

Kola has now received an open invitation from the Adamson administration to prepare for a second group of students from the Samarai-Murua District in the coming months. The Adamson administration also expressed appreciation for the support from Local Member for Samarai-Murua District, Isi Henry Leonard, and his District Development Authority (DDA), which funded this significant initiative in human resources investment.

Leonard emphasized that education is a top priority for his district and confirmed his commitment to continue covering school fees for children in Samarai-Murua District. He described the scholarship initiative as a test run to facilitate post-secondary education in the Philippines, expressing satisfaction with the positive results achieved so far.

The students participating in the scholarship program include Jonah Roger, Shallom Steven, and Bernadette Francis, who are studying secondary education with a focus on English. Other students are pursuing various fields: Emmanuel Samson in electrical engineering, Inos Gordon in mechanical engineering, Hau’ofa Steven in civil engineering, Gabriel Pakwe in marketing management, and Joseph Thomas in architecture studies.
