TWO primary schools will receive assistance from the Japanese government for school expansion projects.
The Government of Japan through its “Japanese Grant for Grassroots Human Security Projects” (GGP) signed grant contracts last week with representatives from Megiar Primary School in Madang, and Sassoya Primary School in East Sepik. Deputy chief of mission of the Embassy of Japan Hiroyuki Orikasa said the signing should strengthen the existing relationship between Japan and PNG and contribute to social and economic development. “We hope that our assistance will help contribute to the schools producing good students who will become the next leaders and further strengthen our bilateral ties,” he said. Megiar Primary School principal Kathy Uamo and Sassoya Primary School board chairman James Suanga, on behalf of their communities, thanked the government of Japan for the grants. “This is the first assistance our school has received from a donor agency and we will see to it that the project is implemented accordingly,” Uamo said. “The project will greatly help our students and we are looking forward to working closely with the embassy to see its successful completion,” Suanga said.
