The Catholic education board in Western Highlands Province has opposed the appointment of teachers postings and want the postings to be ruled null and void.
Catholic education board chairman Joe Yaga and his deputy Fr Alfred Koimo claimed yesterday. They raised their grievance, claiming that they were speaking on behalf of other church education agencies that the appointment of the teachers posting for 2018 academic year was not done the right way. The former Western highlands provincial education adviser Joe Yaga said the academic year is just around the corner the teachers are still hanging around at the Gavina house to know their postings. Mr Yaga said some teachers have rejected their postings, while some of the names for deceased teachers appeared on the posting lists. He said some of the untrained teachers that roam in the village had been posted to senior head masters positions. The Post-Courier yesterday called the provincial education office for comments but was unsuccessful. According to Mr Yaga the appointment committees isolated the teaching service commission representatives, PNGTA with the church education agencies and they are in the dark. He said both parties have their own recommendations and they should be included in the appointment but this was not done, therefore everyone was not satisfied with the outcome of the appointments. Mr Yaga said they want the current appointment ruled null and void because it was a big disgrace for the teachers with the church education agencies. He warned that if the appointment committees do not response to their grievance they will take legal action against them and will not allow the 2018 academic year to resume in the province. Deputy chairman Fr Alfred Koimo said the appointment committee had never met to deliberate and make recommendations. Fr Alfred said the appointment committees were made up of technical officers and posting should be done prior to the PEB meeting. He said therefore they recommend to the appropriate authorities in the education department to intervene. Fr Alfred said the appointment committee had breached the MOA because the appointment made without consideration and deliberation. _Post Courier
