CHANCELLOR of the PNG University of Technology Sir Nagora Bogan told a packed hall of secondary students that the university was having a paradigm shift to revolutionize everything.
Sir Nagora made the remarks while officially opening the two-day Open Day and Career Fair on Friday and Saturday saying that young people’s role are quality education and we will create an environment conducive to your learning. The Chancellor said in recent past UNITECH had bad coverage but said this was now changing and echoed the latest slogan for the university – I make UNITECH fly. “Right now it’s about the best interest of the University. I make UNITECH fly - you make UNITECH fly and this reflects the quality of management and leadership here.” The Chancellor praised the current president of the Student Leadership Council, Eddie Nagual for his leadership for advocating for education and quality leadership. Sir Nagora advised the students to make their own career choices and not allow their parents to dictate to them, adding that God created everyone uniquely. The Open Day was open to secondary school students to visit, find out about programs at the University and see different displays that were set up which gave intending students to learn about the university and to help them decide their choices for university education next year. The theme of the two day-events was Collaborations for Innovation and Sustainable Development. UNITECH offers programs in engineering, Environment and Built, Natural Sciences and Humanities. Schools that visited UNITECH included secondary schools in the Morobe Province, International Education Agency schools and even Kainantu Secondary School in Eastern Highlands. Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor, Dr Albert Schram urged the students to approach the day with an open mind and to be inquisitive. Dr Schram advised students that apart from gaining knowledge, they should also work on improving attitudes to life. Dr Schram also advocated the university culture of accountability, integrity, professionalism, Innovation, Pride and Passion.
