TWELVE Papua New Guinea students will be leaving on Monday to study at universities in the United States following 65 others who are there.
The 12 self-sponsored students will to take up different courses including medicine, nursing, software engineering, mechanical engineering and pilot training at the Pensacola Christian College in Florida, Riverside Flight Centre in Oklahoma and the Marritta Baptist College in Ohio and two students will study at a high school in Florida.
A final-year business management and finance student of Pensacola Christian College, Nathan Ponjel, said he had assisted and sent 65 students to the US and the latest was a batch of 12.
“I will continue to assist the students in terms of giving them advice on the application process and securing their sponsorships from potential sponsors. I offer free service.
“My goal is to assist students from the 21 provinces get the highest education at well-established colleges in the US and help them build their character,” he said.
Ponjel said there were plenty of opportunities to get quality education overseas and the MPs must not restrict their sponsorship to students attending colleges and universities in the country.
“Our MPs must aim high and start sending students from their respective districts and provinces to study different courses in overseas universities so when they complete their studies, they can come back and help develop districts.
“I am now appealing for partnerships from all the MPs, business houses and individuals to work with me to help send most of our students to study overseas,” Ponjel said.
Shemma Yuangi, from East Sepik, will be doing a double degree in business management and finance at Pensacola Christian College.
