SCHOOLS in the country will take part in a national television quiz competition next year.
The Department of Education and the Think Tank Quiz, a local private educational company providing alternative educational activities using media and ICT resources, signed an agreement to launch the competition. John Kama, the director of Think Tank Quiz, said the competition would reach other centres apart from Port Moresby. “Provinces will select schools to represent them at the regional level,” he said. “Goroka will be the regional center for the Highlands region, Rabaul for New Guinea Islands, Madang for Momase and Alotau for Southern,” said Kama. “Provinces will send their selected schools to these regional centers where schools from each region will compete. “The final show will take place in Port Moresby.” Kama said the national quiz competition needed the support of the Government through the Education Department. Dr Eliakim Apelis from the education department said the partnership with the Think Tank Quiz would greatly assist the department in terms of academic competition between schools in the country. “It will particularly target the school children to learn more and boost them to study harder with the determination to succeed,” Apelis said. “The Department of Education is also planning to trial online examinations as well,” he said. “Marking of examinations in Port Moresby costs the department between K3 million and K4 million to bring markers to mark the examination papers. “The department is looking at ways to mark exam papers at regional centers by online examinations and marking.”

Think Tank Quiz is a vital and important organization that helps students in their learning career and it also helps to open up students mind to broad knowledge and not settling on a specialized area of studying. As a developing nation I suggest that our government as well as business houses must put some effort into such organization like this to build future leaders of Papua New Guinea to take the future. With that, thank you TTQ and a very big thanks to God.
