“Your students’ behaviour reflects your own behavior.” This was a statement made by Boe Lahui Ako, a Psychology Lecturer at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) during his In-Service presentation this week at the Kopkop College, Port Moresby. “Teach by leading by example - and have an open mind,” said Mr Ako. “We must understand the child’s mind in order to make the classroom a productive place.”
He said that the teachers made the classroom an inclusive and safe place for students who came from different households, and were unique themselves. In-Service for Kopkop College teachers kicked off this week and will see guest speakers and teachers presenting research standards on children’s health and psychology. The teachers will also be sitting an in-house Information and Community Technology (ICT) training this week. These teachers of Kopkop College are part of over 50,000 teachers of both primary and secondary schools nationwide, who will be having refresher courses this week as well. PNGFM
