The Papua New Guinea Education Department has officially released the examination schedule for 2025, outlining key dates for national assessments across various grade levels. The announcement, which includes dates for the Lower Secondary School Certificate (Grade 10), Upper Secondary School Certificate (Grade 12), and Certificate of Basic Education (Grade 8) exams, aims to provide students, teachers, and parents with ample time to prepare. The schedule, detailed in a recently published table, covers written expression exams, STEM assessments, and comprehensive subject tests. The examination period kicks off on Thursday, 5 June 2025, with the Lower Secondary School Certificate Written Expression exam for Grade 10 students. This will be followed by the Upper Secondary School Certificate Written Expression exam for Grade 12 students on Monday, 4 August 2025. These written expression exams are critical components of the national assessment system, designed to evaluate students' communication and analytical skills.
In September, Grade 12 students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs will face a week-long examination period from 1-5 September 2025. These exams are pivotal for students pursuing careers in technical and scientific fields, as they assess proficiency in key STEM subjects. The bulk of the national examinations will take place in October. Grade 10 students will sit for their Lower Secondary School Certificate exams from 6-10 October 2025, while Grade 12 students will undertake their Upper Secondary School Certificate exams from 13-17 October 2025. These exams cover a wide range of subjects and are crucial for students transitioning to higher education or the workforce. Finally, Grade 8 students will complete their Certificate of Basic Education exams from 20-23 October 2025. These assessments mark the culmination of basic education and determine eligibility for progression to secondary school. The Education Department has urged all stakeholders to take note of the dates and ensure students are well-prepared for these important milestones.
