IBSUniversity has celebrated a double milestone in Papua New Guinea, hosting its sixth graduation while also recognising its elevation to full university status. The ceremony, held at the Mt. Eriama campus in partnership with Southern Cross University, saw over 200 students graduate across multiple academic disciplines. Graduates received qualifications in Accounting and Finance, Business and Management, Economics and Development Studies, and Information Technology, reflecting the institution’s growing academic scope.
The occasion followed Parliament’s endorsement of the IBSU Bill earlier this year, formally granting IBSUniversity its new status. Speaking at the event, Chancellor Mrs. Avivita Rapilla said the moment marked a historic chapter for the institution. “The successful passage of the IBSU bill in parliament represents years of perseverance and commitment inspired by the institution’s founding father, Sir Mick Nades,” she said. She urged graduates to embrace their role in shaping the nation’s future. “You leave this institution not only with qualifications but also with responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of Papua New Guinea and beyond.” The keynote address by Higher Education Minister Kinoka Hotune Feo challenged students to become drivers of change in the economy. “Let Papua New Guinea not follow the future but create it and lead it, with the knowledge, skills and qualifications attained, create and innovate new job opportunities and trends so that others can follow.” Mrs. Rapilla also paid tribute to Southern Cross University for its ongoing collaboration with IBSU. “Your partnership and belief in our ability to deliver quality programs have played a significant role in expending opportunities for our students and expending our academic standing.” Headlines
