EDUCATION officials in Morobe are closely monitoring activities in high schools whose operations have been affected by various issues.
Provincial programme advisor for education Murika Bihoro said Morobe Technical High School, Salamaua High School and Nawaeb Lutheran High School had problems which the administration was attending to. Bihoro said the Morobe Technical High School needed more funding to complete its infrastructure development project. He said Salamaua which sent home students because of the lack of water supply, had resumed classes. “The school has a K15,000 water pump which supplied water into the Southern Cross tank. Water is flowing back into the school.” Bihoro also met with the Nawaeb district administration officials after teachers boycotted classes because of harassment by local communities. “I have met with the district administration and resolved to resume classes at Nawaeb,” he said. He called on the local communities to take ownership of the school and work with the administration to ensure the safety of the students and teachers. He said the teachers reacted after the school truck was again held up on its way to the school. Bihoro also welcomed the approach by the Lae police to arrest students involved in fights. “Student behaviour is getting complex. It is not like in the past,” he said. “The student population has increased and the school fight problem is harder than 10 years ago. I don’t think the police can contain fighting students in large crowds.” Comments are closed.
