TWO aspiring young men from the Yus local level government council area in Kabwum, Morobe last week received K50,000 each to further their education in New Zealand.
Sanangke Quasepe, 30, from Nokopo village, and Alert Victor, 25, from Keveng village, will undergo pilot training at Nelson Aviation College and International Aviation Academy of New Zealand respectively. Local MP Bob Dadae said the assistance towards the two is recognised by the district where the District Development Authority is helping them to complete their studies. “The students have in the past enrolled at the pilot training school in New Zealand with the assistance from the Raicoast MP but to complete the training they have to go through certain stages however they could not complete their studies due to financial constrain,” he said. Dadae said he had plans to send Kabwum students overseas for pilot training because of the lack of roads and recent decision by Lutheran Shipping to stop operation. “The transportation we are benefiting from at the moment is air transport,” he said. “We need to recognise our students who are interested in becoming pilots.” He said what the DDA was doing was to help them finish their training so when they come back, they can work at an airline in Papua New Guinea and/or help the district. “Other members of parliament are doing similar things throughout the country and for Kabwum, these two are our first students and we wanted to help them complete their studies,” he said. “We hope to help more in future.” The National
