A TOTAL of 40 teachers from Central and National Capital District have ended a week-long training on how to use the new science and mathematics text books and also teaching manuals. This training was part of the Quis-Me project undertaken by the Department of Education in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) to improve the quality of science and mathematics education. Project chief advisor Akinori Ito said the project started in March last year where they developed Grade Three and Grade Four science and mathematics text books and teachers’ manuals. “This year we are going to validate the draft text books and teachers’ manuals,” Ito told The National. He said they were asked to do a pilot training for teachers and after that the teachers would use the text books and manuals and send them feedbacks every month. “So we have invited 40 teachers as pilot teachers to conduct training for them so they understand the project and the role of pilot teachers and what they do,” Ito said. He said these were national textbooks and they have to do proper assurance and make sure they met national standards. Ito said he believed the 40 teachers have understood how to use the text books through the workshop. He said the Grade Three and Four text books and the teachers’ manuals were expected to be completed by June next year and printed by the Government by 2019. The National
