MADANG Governor Jim Kas has condemned the conduct of students in three high schools, which resulted in the burning down of dormitories.
Kas said he had just bought a new generator for Aiom High School, which was now useless after students burnt down dormitories. Students at Holy Spirit High School burnt down a boys’ dormitory and destroyed the one for the girls. Students at Transgogol High School attacked their teachers and destroyed dormitories and classrooms too, forcing the suspension of classes. Kas said the school management and boards should control the situation in their schools. “Inter-group fighting must stop. The Government is trying to improve facilities,” Kas said. “Destroying these facilities will discourage the Government from infrastructure developments at the schools,” he said. Kas is yet to receive reports of the situation at Aiom High Schools but said teachers would not feel safe to teach.
