Morobe education adviser Keith Jiram is calling on district education inspectors and programme managers in the province to submit to his office next week resumption forms for teachers.
“I have received the resumption-of-duty summary sheets for 1000-plus teachers which is less than 20 per cent of all teachers,” Jiram told The National yesterday following a warning from the Teaching Service Commission that teachers would automatically be suspended from the payroll if their forms were not received by the end of the month. “By end of this month, the rest of the teachers whose summary sheets have not reached me, will go on auto-suspension. “That’s going to be a big problem in the province. “I am giving until next week to sign the summary sheets and then have them sent to the payroll division in Port Moresby. “I want all the district school inspectors and programme managers to speed up the process.” Jiram said 80 per cent of the teachers in Morobe were teaching in the rural areas “I am also mindful of the large number of teachers who may be affected if we delay,” he said Jiram said deteriorating road conditions should not be an excuse for the delay because the division maintained effective communication with the nine districts of Morobe. “I am making summary sheets of teachers a priority,” he said. Jiram said it was revealed last week during a week-long workshop conducted by the commission that other provinces were experiencing similar issues. As of Feb 26, the Education Department’s payroll division has confirmed receiving the summary sheets of 12,000 teachers out of the 56,000 nationwide.
