A TOTAL of 2835 students in East New Britain have been selected to continue onto Grade 9 next year.
Provincial education board chairman Wilson Matava said in a statement that out of the 5580 Grade 8 students who sat their national examinations this year, 830 would pursue their education through technical vocational education and training (TVET). “The remainder will continue through the Flexible Open Distance Education,” Matava, who is also the acting provincial administrator, said. The board had its final meeting for this year on December 9. He said the two main agendas for deliberation were the Grade 9 selections and the appointment of teachers in schools for 2016. “More students could have been selected had there been adequate infrastructure facilities in secondary schools. However, parents and guardians are encouraged to seek enrolment in private schools such as Vunabosco Agro-Technical Secondary School, Mater Dei and others.” Matava said the education board also appointed head teachers, principals, managers and their deputies.
