THE Melanesian Nazarene Teachers College in Jiwaka dedicated and opened four major projects valued at K1.5 million to support the Vision 2050 to produce wise, smart and healthier Papua New Guineans through education.
These projects were funded by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology. The projects include dormitories for male and female, water supply and staff houses. The opening occasion last Thursday was attended by Miti Peai from the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, assistant secretary from the teacher’s education division Allan Jim and Rev Yambe Sike from the Nazarene Church. Peai said one way to achieve Vision 2050 is to recapitalise and rehabilitate to fund such institution so that they can start to create wise, smart and healthier people. “That is why the government is diverting funds to fund institution so that they can move the nation forward,” he said. “That is through funding infrastructures and provide support to institutions like the Melanesian Nazarene Teachers College.” He said the Melanesian Nazarene Teachers College is one of the beneficiaries of the support and it has used the funding wisely to fully complete the projects. He said this college is receiving all the credits because it has completed all its projects and presented the acquittal which is good. Peai said because there are more Grade 12 dropouts on the street, the government is so concerned and is trying to accommodate them. Principal Peter Kelage said the institution was established in 2007 and it has been struggling in terms of infrastructure developments. “Now we have these projects in place and that is an achievement which will boost our morale and support us to aim our targets to implement the Vision 2050.” The national
