More than 400 graduates from Maprik Secondary School in East Sepik were challenged by Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch to make a decent contribution to the development of the country.
“No country in the world progresses and becomes a developed country without educating its people,” he said. Speaking during the 41st Grade 10 and fourth Grade 12 graduation last Thursday, Pruaitch told the graduates that “a lot of things are going through your mind today, thinking about what you are going to be doing and what is available in the world and the opportunities after graduating from this school. “And it is natural for you to think that way as the world is too big. “Education is about your future and I believe that spending your 12 years of education, you have developed the discipline and ideal of being a better person. “And as young graduates and moving into further education, I believe the responsibility is to ensure that your community is looked after, particularly your parents. “When you leave here, there is another opportunity awaiting you, but this time is bigger and wider. “The world is waiting for you, you yourself will determine whether you succeed after graduating.” Meanwhile Maprik MP John Simon encouraged the students to spend more time at home during holidays because parents, especially mothers, have sacrificed a lot to educate them. “Maprik Secondary is the pride of Maprik, when you leave this school, always remember you are ambassadors of this school,” Simon said.
