A NEW high school in Southern Highlands that was closed last year due to election-related issues is set to resume operations this year.
Lai Valley High School in the Mendi-Munihu district was established a few years ago and had two successful grade 10 graduations, but closed due to election-related issues. School chairman Raphael Tonpi said the school board of management and the Lai Valley community were working together to help the school to reopen. Tonpi said due to election-related issues grade 10 students were given the green light by the education board to withdraw. The grade 9s also withdrew in fear. “It was an unfortunate year for many schools in the province and many students were affected,” he said. “Lai Valley High School is ready to start fresh as it has got more than K200,000 left in the school account which will be used to start while waiting for the release of the first batch of tuition fee-free funds.” He said the grade 9 and 10 students would return to enrol.
